School Safety Drill Log
Built for principals, assistant principals, and safety coordinators who need the year's drills documented — not remembered: plan the year on one page, log every drill as it happens, turn every issue found into an owned, dated corrective action, and verify the fix at the next drill.
What's inside
- Page 1 — Annual drill schedule planner. One row per drill type — fire/evacuation, lockdown, earthquake, severe weather, reverse evacuation — with the planned count left blank for YOUR district's numbers, target months, and an owner.
- Page 2 — Drill log record. One complete record per drill: type, announced or not, start and all-clear times, total time, students and staff counted, and headcount verified.
- Page 3 — Drill observation & issues checklist. Signal heard everywhere, exits clear, doors per drill type, attendance at the assembly point, common-area sweep — plus the issues you actually found.
- Page 4 — Corrective action tracker. Eight rows turning every issue into an action with an owner, a due date, and a verified-fixed checkbox.
- Page 5 — Completed sample. A filled drill record and corrective-action row for a fictional school — the level of detail an auditor wants to see.
- Page 6 — Quick-start & audit checklist. A 10-point checklist: enter your district's counts, time every drill, verify headcount twice, and review the log each term.

The old way vs. this toolkit
| Task | Memory & scattered notes | With this toolkit |
|---|---|---|
| Knowing what ran, when | Memory, emails, and a binder hunt | One dated log record per drill, filed the same day |
| Required drill counts | "I think we did enough this year" | A planner where you enter your district's counts and check them off |
| Issues found during drills | Mentioned in the hallway, then lost | An observation checklist completed during the drill itself |
| Fixes | Good intentions | A corrective action tracker: owner, due date, verified fixed |
| Audit or review time | Reconstructing the year from scraps | The planner, log, and tracker — one complete term file |

Questions about this toolkit
How many drills of each type are we required to run?
Your state and district set those numbers — they vary too much for any template to state them safely. The planner leaves the count fields blank for you to enter your district's requirements, and the log then tracks your school against your own numbers.
Who is this for?
The administrator or safety coordinator who owns the drill calendar — typically a principal, assistant principal, or safety lead. One purchase covers your own school's drill documentation for the year.
Does it cover more than fire drills?
Yes. The planner and log carry fire/evacuation, lockdown, earthquake, severe weather, and reverse evacuation — with observation prompts (doors, signals, sweeps) that adjust by drill type.
Is this our school's official safety plan?
No — and it doesn't try to be. It is the documentation layer that sits alongside your district's safety plan: the plan says what to do, this log proves what was done, when, and what got fixed. Check your district's requirements before adopting any form for official records.
